What is Sibelius Summer Academy?

Sibelius Summer Academy is a summer study program offered by the Sibelius Academy, University of the Arts Helsinki in Finland. It offers young talents a chance to work and perform together with world-class teachers, artists and other students in an encouraging and inspiring international environment with state-of-the-art facilities. Sibelius Summer Academy is supported by the Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation and the Wihuri Foundation.

Mr. Dominik Wollenweber has unfortunately had to cancel his participation in the Sibelius Summer Academy Woodwind week in June 2019. It is with great honour that we can announce that oboe artist, estonian Kalev Kuljus will be replacing him in teaching the versatile international student crowd participating in the event!

Kalev Kuljus has played with several international orchestras (the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, NYYD Ensemble, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, M√ľnchen Philharmoniker, Heidelberger Sinfoniker, the Orchestre de Chamber de Lyon, Akademisches Orchester UNI Freiburg, Nordic Symphony Orchestra, Finnish-Estonian Baroque Orchestra, Hortus Musicus Academic Orchestra, ensemble Estonian Baroque Soloists, Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and others). He has also been the principal guest oboist of of Berlin Philharmoniker.. Since 2003 Kalev Kuljus is the oboe soloist of the NDR Sinfonieorchester. Since 2009 Kuljus is also guest solo oboist of Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin and Hamburg State Opera, since 2010 guest solo oboist of Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra. Kalev Kuljus is also active as a teacher. He has given a number of master classes in Japan, Taiwan, Brazil, Hamburg, China and Estonia. Since 2013 Kuljus continues as a docent at Orchesterzentrum NRW.
