Greetings from the Woodwind professor
The day is almost here for the first ever Sibelius Summer Academy summer course - featuring the lovely woodwind instruments! The artistic director of the event is Sibelius Academy, Uniarts Helsinki's Woodwind professor Harri Mäki. He wants to welcome everybody - as well as the participating students, our esteemed teaching faculty but also the public - to enjoy the versatile programme and the atmosphere of our event.
“Concertgebouw's woodwind soloists bring their own musical instruments along with the tradition of their ensemble playing culture. They come from many different countries, even from different continents, but have developed an exceptionally sophisticated ensemble. Our students can learn a lot from them – and the cooperation will also continue even after the Sibelius Summer Academy in the everyday life of our school for several semesters, in form of the newly established International Visitor Programme.
In the Sibelius Summer Academy’s woodwind week concerts, a lot of Mozart's music is heard because he wrote many of his best works specifically for woodwind instruments and ensembles. One concert programme is built around a harp, another around the accordion. The Helsinki Music Centre will be filled with woodwind students and music lovers to support the common issue. Workshops, concerts, lectures, even pilates - but first and foremost top class teaching from the world's best woodwind pedagogues is being offered.”
